Since 1976, Transition House has provided support to men recovering from addictions including substances and/or problem gambling. We can accommodate 17 people over the age of 16, with accessible first-floor accommodations available.

A Safe, Substance-Free Home

Our house at 162 Madison Avenue offers a comfortable, structured, and substance-free environment. Residents identify their own recovery and personal goals for the three months they stay with us — creating a foundation built on trust, accountability, and mutual respect.

Goal-Directed Recovery

While at Transition House, residents actively work toward their identified recovery goals. These may include outpatient treatment, relapse prevention, anger management, 12-step meetings, and other treatment models. Residents may also be working, job hunting, or volunteering in the community.

Counselling, Connection, & Community

Residents participate in household chores, meal preparation, and house meetings. Our counsellors provide trauma-informed counselling, direction and feedback around applying coping and life skills, leading individuals toward independent living, cooperation, and mutual support, because recovery is stronger together.

24-Hour Counsellor Support

Transition House is staffed 24 hours a day by a team of experienced counsellors. Our staff support residents in following their goal plan and keep in regular contact with each resident's primary counsellor to ensure a consistent, unified care approach.

Life Skills & New Beginnings

Our volunteers are vital to Transition House. They introduce residents to low-cost recreational activities , plays, sporting events, and social experiences, helping rebuild confidence and connection. Our Board of Directors brings expertise in policy, financial management, and program development.

Ready to Take

Our residents are required to have a primary counsellor who will help them with their recovery concerns, as well as housing and other issues. Potential residents may also self-refer. Please fill out our intake form as thoroughly as possible.
